I agree with most of the posters here, don't waste your $50 on this game..especially since you're a poor high school kid. Anyone who says Factions has the same amount or more content than GW:P is full of BS.

After beat Factions with 2 characters, I can tell you this. Imagine playing GW:P and only having access to Presearing, Ascalon, Shiverpeaks, and Kryta. Well..that's basically the same amount of content you'll get playing GW:F.

Factions for me, was an ok buy, and I bought the CE. Cantha is a sight to behold and you can tell ALOT of effort went into the scenery and creating the feel of the game.

The storyline does progress alot faster than Prophecies if you do only the missions, but I'm the sort of person that insists on doing every quest in each area until I'm satisifed enough to move on to the next area. In this light, I'd say that the content in Factions IS nearly as great as Prophecies if you take into account the massive amount of quests available. You do all the quests in the town thinking you're done, but when exploring the area, you find alot more quests in npc's scattered across the land.

The two new classes play very differently from the core professions and I'm really loving the diversity in the Ritualist class.

Basically if you liked GW:P, and you're looking for more of the same (more skills, more areas and scenery to explore, new classes, new armours) then you should be happy with GW:F. If you're looking for a radical new change then I recommend buying another game.

It depends what you prioritize. If you are an active pvper, I would say its debatable, its more worth a 30-40$ buy. If you want a lot of pve content, wait until it goes in your bargain bin an EB games.

The pros:

Scenery is gorgeous, its far better than Prophecies.
The missions are more challenged and better designed.
It might seem nominal but even based on the title screen, the music is quite impressive.
Lots of pvp content, alliance battles, etc, Gamespot said it well. It caters well to the hardcore.

The cons:
It only has half the missions of Prophecies which undoubtedly accounts for many ill felt feelings on this forum.
Its puts a new meaning into the word linear.

Factions totally sucked IMO, I never really got into it unlike I did with Prophecies.

Worth every penny, so far.

I really like the replayability with Alliance Battles rather than just getting done with the game and sweat farming for FoW armor ala Prophecies.

I could really go on and on but I think Factions is a 100% improvement over Prophecies

This kind of helps me out too. I'm kind of hesitant to buy factions, even though I really want to play a ritualist and an assassin. I keep asking myself though, is it worth 50 dollars just to be able to play 2 new classes? Because from the sounds of alot of people, the missions and quests aren't much, and kind of power level you. I don't like to be power leveled, or rushed through stuff, so I'm wondering if I'll even like that. Would be nice if I could pay an expansion price just to be able to play the 2 new professions in Tyria. I've already seen some assassin runes in Droks, so maybe they're thinking about it... probably not, lol

It's fine (so far) but then I've not had much time to play too much. I prefered the skill/quest system from Chapter 1 though, instead of buying most skills (as it is in Factions) it made it far more interesting and rewarding to quest for it.

A little disappointed about not getting true full access to both chapters by merging. As I don't PvP a whole lot, I wanted to be able to use my new classes to help guildies in Tyrian missions and also pick up skills from early Tyria quests but you can't do this. I don't care what the mathmagicians on here say, it felt like being cheated out of full access for no apparent reason.

I got the C.E. and overall the box contents and such are good, but not sure if I'd do the same for Chapter 3 if it continues like this (restricting content/merges etc), if I'd even get it.

NOT worth it. From a pve perspective $50 is a robbery for this expansion; from a pvp perspective it's more like blackmail, since the only thing you may need to stay competitive are the new skills.

I disagree about $50 not being worth it for PvE. This is one case where we Prophecies folks were spoiled. We got a LOT for our $50 with Prophecies, more play hours than you get with most games, and we expected the same with Factions. We didn't get it, but Factions is longer than many other games I've played.

Having said that, the PvE content itself isn't all that hot in terms of how enjoyable and fun it is. If you have $50 to spend on a game and you mainly PvE, you might want to spend that $50 elsewhere.

Well, here's the thing.

Factions isn't as good as Prophecies, but it still is pretty good.

So if you think that Prophecies was worth a lot more than you paid for it, you'll probably think Factions is worth the price. If you think Prophecies was only worth about what you paid for it, you'll think Factions was a ripoff.

Think of it this way:

If Prophecies cost 80$, would you buy it?

If yes, you'll like Factions for 50$.

If no, you won't.

Yeah, henching is tougher this time around. But that is probably mostly my fault. I have only made it up to the Vizuna Local quarter with henchies.

Yep, I'd have to agree... that its your fault!

The henchies are great now (except the 'sin henchies who are agro magnets!!!)

As I work nights I've missed a lot of play time with my other half and my guildies, so I've been getting to know the henchies really well and they've not let me down yet

It worth for those who love it. If you blame about Faction, blame yourself bc you buy it. Man, this was happening when Prophecies comes out. People start complaining it sucked compared to WoW and it wouldnt getting any success. What happened in the best game of the year 2005? Guild Wars in head for popularity in online game. Just give Anet some time to fix it like before they did with Prophecies and gives more area like SF and Tomb (After the corruption).

I remember the first big bug they fix when GWP started : Cant go out of Ascalon city in pre-searing and get a fatal error.

Anyway, just give time to make it perfect like the older one.

Bullcrap. There were tons of complaints about Prophecies when it first came out. And those issues were far more important that the ones people are bringing up now about Factions.

Skill Elite capturing was horrible back then. And there were no PVP faction points. There were no rune traders so getting runes was a lot harder. Attribute refunds were not unlimited. And so many others. There were plenty of complaints about those things just like how there are complaints about Factions now. Except now (barring a few cases) people are just nitpicking.

Cap Elite: must use Sign at the same time the boss use the elite. Try to cap Escape against the troll near Drok during that time.

Att Refunds: Can switch only 20 time and wait after that about 1h to gain 1 pts of AR.

Bad Times.

After having set up this thread, I can undoubtably say that Factions is not as good as the original. It just sounds less fun. The scenery and sounds of the game (the presentation) sounds impressive, but I don't think it is worth the buy. I am probably going to buy it anyways because I will have some extra money soon. When I first bought Guild Wars in July, it was $55 I believe. It barely went down $5 since then, so waiting for Factions to go down might be a while. I am just going to get it now, I am not too poor to where I cannot afford $5.

Trust me boss... when you do buy it you'll wonder what the fuss was about. Dont' rush it, hit all the quests you can and you'll have a blast.

Besides... no one mentioned another fine feature... NEW PETS!
